We want to welcome you to the Annual Spring Convention of the Michigan Psychological Association. We are fortunate to have Dr. Philip Erdberg who will address us on the topic of personality disorders. This presentation is the last in a trilogy of outstanding seminars organized by the Program Committee around the theme of the disowned self. Looking at that theme from many different theoretic perspectives, as well as from both an evaluative and treatment perspective, Drs. Steven Finn, Colin Ross, and Philip Erdberg generously share their insights and skills in understanding and treating these difficult clinical problems.

Dr. Erdberg's two-day conference is a useful opportunity for our members to network and become more familiar with colleagues throughout Michigan. Not a current member of MPA? No problem! We would like to meet you and welcome you into our active community of fellow Psychologists. CE credits are available in compliance with APA guidelines.

Our Annual Spring Convention is held at the Henry Center, an easily accessible location adjacent to the campus of Michigan State University. Feel free to bring your family as we will have guides full of activities to see and do around Lansing. We look forward to seeing you in April.

Understanding and Treating Personality Disorders: A Clinical Update

The pervasively maladaptive patterns of experience and behavior that cause so much difficulty for individuals first came into the diagnostic nomenclature in 1980 with the DSM-III's description of Axis II personality disorders. In the ensuing 30 years, a tremendous amount of research and clinical data has accumulated, suggesting that these disorders are best understood from a bio-psycho-social viewpoint. This workshop updates the literature and provides practical information about assessment and intervention for these challenging disorders.
